Festival

The primary goal of the competition is to promote the cultured consumption of distillates and pálinka in Transylvania, with a special focus on centuries-old traditions and modern quality standards. Participants receive detailed feedback on the sensory characteristics of their submitted samples, provided by highly experienced international judges. The competition also aims to support the business category by enhancing marketing tools and commercial opportunities, while encouraging high-quality production among individual participants. CATEGORIES: • Business category: Open to commercial enterprises that produce or distribute distillates/pálinka. • Individual category: Open to private distillers or individuals who have their distillates produced at a contract distillery. The competition is held every May. 

The event aims to highlight the connection between small-scale farming and gastronomy, offering the public a chance to discover unique, terroir-style cheese specialties born from the alliance of nature, milk, and the producer. Of course, visitors also have the opportunity to stock up on delicacies for the Lenten season, as artisan producers will offer cheeses, honey, tea herbs, jams, and other gourmet specialties at the event. The event is organized every April. 

Borszereda brings the finest bottles from Hungarian winemakers across the Carpathian Basin to the heart of Szeklerland, the city of Miercurea Ciuc! The event aims to promote and establish quality wine consumption and to nurture the local wine culture. The festival is held every May. 

Cea1 Borsec Festival – a celebration that combines culture, gastronomy, sports, and music. Every year, numerous cooking teams compete to showcase their skills. In addition to local chefs, international chefs also participate, further enhancing the prestige of the event. The Cauldron Festival takes place every summer.  The festival is held every July. 

The Cloud Festival is not just an event in the calendar; it is a movement to encourage young people to be open to new experiences and ideas. Both the organisers and participants of the event believe in the power of culture, personal development, quality entertainment and music to create opportunities for change and progress in the local community. The festival is held in May each year.

A traditional international gastronomic event initiated by the community. A tradition built around the making of sausages. Pig slaughter, fair, folk dance and handicraft activities. This is what the Sausage Festival in Nicolești/Csíkszentmiklós is all about. The biggest gastronomic event in the Ciuc/Csíki Basin, which is attended year after year by our friends from Hungary, Slovakia and Romania. Because spending time together is the best, every year! It takes place in February each year.

The first all-round arts, culture and music festival organised in the entire Gheorgheni/Gyergyó Basin. The festival is held every August.

 The aim of the event is for the festival to open the hearts of the people of Transylvania to one another and to God. 

In 2001, when this event was organized for the first time, it seemed to be a simple gastronomic contest in which only potato stew boiled in most of the competing teams’ pots. Over the years, however, this event has evolved into a true scene for all sorts of potato delicacies, but also an opportunity for community interaction. The participants take their role very seriously, turning every year a banal potato dish into a sophisticated and varied menu with different flavors, bringing the jury and the tasting audience to work. The festival is organized annually in the Central Park in Miercurea Ciuc and gathers potato lovers from all over the country and abroad. In addition to potato delights, the festival has a dedicated program for young people, creative and craft workshops, popular dances and other beloved community activities. The festival is held every August.

The Csángó-Fatanyéros Guesthouse organizes the Csángó Festival of polenta with cheese in Valea Rece/Hidegség, Lunca de Jos/Gyimesközéplok, in August each year. The purpose of the event is to protect and promote traditions. In addition to the polenta cooking, the organizers are waiting the interested ones with local products fair, concerts, exhibitions, sport events and folk music programs. The festival is held every August.

Every summer, the Pancake Festival is held in Ocna de Sus/Felsősófalva, organized by the Kodáros Association. Visitors can taste the most delicious pancakes, while the organizers also offer a variety of programs, concerts, and fun activities. The idea came from the Kodáros Association, who first organized Pancake Day in 2015. Due to its success, it expanded into a full festival by 2016. Attendance is free and the event offers fun and entertainment for all ages. The festival is held every August. 

The most significant annual event in Siculeni/Madéfalva is the Onion Festival. The aim of the festival is to entertain the audience with colorful and interesting programs for several days. Festival visitors are expected with cultural, traditional and gastronomic programs, as well as sports events and children's programs.  The festival is held every year between the end of August and the beginning of September.

Each year in July, early music sounds in Miercurea Ciuc. During a whole week, early music concerts are given by musicians from our country and abroad, in the Mikó Castle and in various locations of our town. The idea of the Early Music Festival was formulated in 1979 in the memory of Kájoni János, and was established in 1980 by the Barozda and the Kájoni Ensembles. In 1986 the Festival was forbidden by the authorities, and it was renewed only after the change of the regime, this time with international perception. The representatives of early music give general and master courses for the young artists, who wish to enlarge their knowledge in playing early music. The festival is held every July.

Cseperedok family fastival offers 3 days of family fun. You can spend quality time together and have fun in a "familiar" family style. In the program you will find entertainment for children of all ages: craft workshops, sport activities, entertainments, games, puppet and music shows, concerts for kids and adults, folk dance, fairy tale adventure path, presentations and workshops for adults. We welcome all families with children between 0-12 years to take part in the experience of Cseperedők Family Festival. The festival is held every July.

The Stuffed Cabbage Festival is Szeklerland’s and Romania's first gastronomic festival. Each year, it takes place on the 3rd weekend of September. A lot of teams, whose biggest desire is to show to the world their cooking skills, are gathering together for this festival in each year. Visitors can find all kinds of stuffed cabbages: tiny, little, big and huge. The program includes performances by folk dance ensembles, traditional costume shows and concerts. The festival is held every September. 

The International Jazz Festival of Miercurea Ciuc/Csíkszereda is an annual event not to be missed for jazz fans and live music lovers alike, as it features fantastic voices, personalities and bands from the country's most famous musicians to world stars. The small event, which started as a mini jazz festival, is now without a doubt one of the most important musical events not only in the city and the region, but also in Szeklerland. Its strength lies not only in the belief and dedication in its organisation, but also in the freedom of the many genres and the variety of live music.

Being organized year by year since 2006, Dob-Ban International Rhythm festival is the place, where music and rhythm gets angled, where viewers and performers heart's beats at the same pulse. The festival is organized every year between July and August. 

Wonderful sight and fragrance awaits the visitors. The aromatic, ornated field, the bluish-purple herb-hill with a stunning scent awaits the lavender lovers.  Goat milk lavender soup, lavender syrup, lavender strawberry jam, fragrant bouquets and pillows can be bought by those who visit Cechești/Csekefalva during the festival.  The homely atmosphere and the special event was created by the local Unitarian pastor to introduce the versatile use and beneficial effects of the fragrant, purple flower. Those interested can visit the lavender plantation, take photos of themselves or take part in various activities.  The festival is held every year in June.

The three-day event linked to Odorheiu Secuiesc/Székelyudvarhely has important historical roots: its four editions held between 1970 and 1973 are rightly considered the cradle of Hungarian popular music in Romania. Last year, the talent competition was revived, and this year it returns with an expanded program aimed at young musicians. The Odorheiu Secuiesc/Székelyudvarhely Heritage Resource Center and the Youth Coordination Council aim to create a platform for young musicians to showcase their talent and to promote the performance of Hungarian songs through the organization of this Transylvanian Hungarian popular music festival. The festival is held every year in August.

According to the traditions, each year at the second weekend of October is organized the Famous Cabbage Fair and Festival in Lăzarea/Szárhegy. The main purpose of this festival is to present our traditions and traditional products to a wider audience, at the same time to provide a various cultural and entertaining program for the locals and tourists. Those who attend the festival will be able to participate in the traditional cabbage harvest (by horse carriage and live music), traditional product’s market, folk dance show, cabbage meal cooking competition, exhibitions and lectures, competition ad contest for kids and concerts at the evening. Regardless of age everyone will find the way to have fun, so everyone is welcome! The festival is held every October. 

The organizers are waiting for visitors to the Film Festival of Szeklerland with concerts, thematic workshops and conversations about movies. At the end of September, part of the Majláth Gusztáv Károly square in Miercurea Ciuc/Csíkszereda is transformed to create a place for the festival in front of the movie Csíki Mozi. After watching the films, the organizers will decide according to the votes of the spectators, which work will be rewarded. The festival is held every September.

The event serves as a professional guideline for producers while also functioning as a community gathering for lovers of traditional flavors. Thanks to the Association of Szekler Economic Organizations (SZGE), the two-day event attracts large crowds to the pedestrian street of Harghita County’s capital.  The event is held every year between March and April. 

The "Ízig-vérig" Pig Slaughter Festival in Corund/Korond has proven to hold a well-deserved place among the region’s traditional heritage events. Each year, participating teams welcome visitors with high-quality gastronomic offerings, carefully designed stands, and a genuine community atmosphere. The festival celebrates tradition, hospitality, and the distinctive artisan spirit of Corund/Korond, laying a strong foundation for its continuation.  At the event, organized on the first Saturday of February every year, those interested can learn about the traditional pig meat processing methods typical of the villages near Corund/Korond.

The Carpathian Basin Pork Feast Festival is held in Gheorgheni/Gyergyószentmiklós. The event is a celebration of traditional pork dishes, community spirit, and charity, welcoming registrations from groups of friends, civil organizations, and companies. The festival is held every year in December, in connection with the St. Nicholas Days. 

The aim of the "KÖZpont" Family Festival is not only to build community as a way of life, but its spiritual value and importance is the preservation and transmission of Hungarian music, musical instruments and traditions. In addition to the ensembles from Transylvania, Odorheiu Secuiesc/Székelyudvarhely and Hungary, we try to attract programme leaders, craftsmen and artisans who, in addition to their performances, pass on their professional secrets, experiences and feelings in some form or other in the form of workshops. In the Living Library we can meet folk musicians, puppeteers, horsemen, seamstresses, woodcarvers, basket weavers, embroiderers and many other craftsmen who can give us an insight into their daily lives.  The festival is held every August. 

The Taste of Transylvania Food Festival represents the culmination of a dream shared by committed chefs, restaurateurs and local producers. Together, we aim to write a new chapter in the food culture of Transylvania. Together, we have begun a journey of rediscovering our culinary traditions, skills and our disappearing heritage; we want to put back this special, hidden region on the international culinary map as a new, yet timeless food destination. The festival is held every September.

The Bálványos Free Summer University and Student Camp, more commonly known as Tusványos is a large-scale intellectual workshop of the Carpathian Basin held annually in Băile Tușnad/Tusnádfürdő, Romania which originally intended to promote cross-border cooperation, Romanian-Hungarian dialogue and cultural Hungarian-Hungarian political exchange. Besides the political and public themes, there is also the opportunity to relax and have fun, participate in sporting and cultural events or visit concerts. Entrance to the camp is free of charge every day until 16:00. The armband received before 16 o'clock is valid after 16:00. Those who arrive after 16 o'clock pay 20 LEI, students or those over 65 years old have discount, for them the entrancee fee is 10 LEI discount. Tickets after 16:00 can be purchased at the camp reception or at the checkpoints. You can do this only in cash (LEI)! There is an ATM in the Băile Tușnad area, if you have not exchanged Romanian currency until then, you can do this here. And if you run out of cash at the camp, there will be a working ATM. The festival is held every July.
