Myrmidone Certification
Harghita Editorial
The Myrmidone (Danube Clouded Yellow butterfly) certification is a quality scheme created for hospitality establishments that promote responsible gastronomy based on local ingredients and traditional culinary values.
Certification may be granted to establishments that:
- use ingredients sourced within a 100 km radius and cooperate with local producers
- offer dishes characteristic of Harghita County (Signature Dish)
- make efforts to reduce food waste
Obtaining the certification:
- The establishment must comply with the criteria system as well as with the provisions set out in the Code of Conduct.
Origin of the name:
The certification is named after the strictly protected butterfly species Danube Clouded Yellow (Colias Myrmidone), which occurs in only three European countries: Poland, Slovakia and Romania. In Romania, it can be found in only two places, including the Kürücök Valley, an area between Gheorgheni/Gyergyószentmiklós and Lăzarea/Gyergyószárhegy.
Its presence proves the exceptional natural value of Harghita County. This clean and living environment is not only a heritage to preserve but is also a reflection of the quality of local ingredients and the region’s gastronomy.
