In the footsteps of Pope Francis

In the footsteps of Pope Francis

Address

Șumuleu Ciuc, Miercurea Ciuc, Romania

On June 1, 2019, Pope Francis held his Holy Mass at the “Hármashalom” Altar in Csíksomlyó/Șumuleu Ciuc and gave a Golden Rose (Rosa d’Oro) to the Shrine of Mary. It was the first time that the head of the Roman Catholic Church had visited Transylvania.

The Harghita Community Development Association, founded at the initiative and with the support of the Harghita County Council, created the thematic round trip called “In the footsteps of Pope Francis” to commemorate this historic event.

During the tour, participants will approach the “Hármashalom” Altar in Csíksomlyó/Șumuleu Ciuc on the route that Pope Francis was taking. On the way, Franciscan monks tell the story of Csíksomlyó/Șumuleu Ciuc and then arrive at the “saddle” to talk about the Pentecost. On the way back, you can taste the water from the spring of Mary. Returning to the church, while listening to stories related to it, you can see the statue of Mary, the tallest votive statue in the world, and the only papal rose of the Carpathian Basin. Those interested can visit the temple's shop.
The closing moment of the tour is the papal menu at the Jakab Antal House, where Pope Francis also had lunch.

The tour can be booked for a minimum of 20 people by calling the following number 4-5 days prior to the planned visit: +407 49 136172.
Tour price: 50 RON/person (3500 ft, 11 euros)
