About

As in the previous years, this year's City Days will be traditionally opened by the Ciuc Chamber Orchestra. Their programme, traditionally scheduled for the St. Augustine Parish Church, is composed of 18th Century classical and 19th Century romantic musical pieces.

In the Program:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Overture from the Opera The Magic Flute
Franz Schubert: Unfinished Symphony
Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony no. 5 in C minor, “Fate”

Conductor: Gergely Ménesi (Budapest).
*
Mozart composed his opera The Magic Flute in 1791, in the last months of his life, and the overture you are about to hear was the last moment before he put it on stage. The whole movement is suffused with a mood of sublime pathos, highlighting the opera's key moments. Schubert began composing his symphony in 1822, but never completed it, his scores having been lost. The manuscript was not found until well after the composer's death, in the 1860s, and contains only two movements. Beethoven's Symphony is an apotheosis of the human will, with the characteristic four-note opening theme, which defines all four movements of the symphony.
*
Concert supported by the Mayor's Office and Municipal Council of Miercurea Ciuc, by the Harghita County Council, the Harghita County Cultural Centre, the and the Ciuc Chamber Orchestra Association.
