About
We are presenting the short story collection Switching Current and its Romanian translation.
The book will be discussed with Dr. Ingrid Tomonicska, Assistant Professor at Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania (Faculty of Miercurea Ciuc).
Praised for its maturity, precision, and finely composed structure, Switching Current has been described as the work of a “long-distance runner” in contemporary Hungarian prose. The volume won the Margó Prize for Best First Prose Book in 2017 and has since been published in Romanian and Serbian translation.
The author, Mátyás Szöllősi (b. 1984, Budapest), is a writer, poet, and photojournalist. His most recent work is the first volume of the novel Phobia (Helikon, 2024).
The Romanian translation of Switching Current was prepared by George Volceanov, a prominent Romanian translator, Anglicist, and university professor. With more than 60 translated volumes to his name, he is widely recognized for his linguistic precision and sensitivity to stylistic nuance. The Romanian edition was published by Tracus Arte in Bucharest.
The collection explores the fragility of human destinies and existential tensions, woven together by the cosmic metaphor of the Betelgeuse supernova.
