THE MEANING OF LIFE
A hundred minutes of one-minute stories
Pál Mácsai reads from the short stories of István Örkény, accompanied on cimbalom by Miklós Lukács.
István Örkény’s collection “One Minute Stories” was first published in 1968. On one side, the minimum of expression; on the other, the maximum of imagination. These writings reveal the grotesque image of our shattered common ideals — and, conversely, the mysterious fullness of life hidden within banalities.
The genre itself has become a concept: many of its lines have turned into proverbs, and its characters and situations have become part of our language and thinking.

The special quality of the one-minute stories is that they never age. This is not only because of their engaging form, unique perspective, clear intellect, and brilliant humor, but above all because their author perceived what remains unchanged within and around us.
