“Winter left the door open when it went away. I thought it might return. I pulled the blinds down, leaving just a crack, watching so I wouldn’t scare it away if it came back. The wind was my coat, wrapped around me as I slipped through the streets. But nothing. It didn’t even say goodbye.

The snow it left behind slowly melts, and beneath it the seeds have rested. Sometimes, when I wake up, I don’t know which century I’m in — maybe they feel the same. It frightens me at first. Then I realize who and where I am. It’s not entirely comforting, but at least I have plans and goals. They are mine. In a way, they are me.

I get up, leave what has happened behind the door, close it without false hopes. Now I’ll tell everyone what I dreamed. That is over — this begins. I can’t wait.”
